Guide to DIY Baby Shower Ideas!

Hey there! Today, I’m thrilled to share a fantastic topic that’s perfect for moms-to-be. In this post, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of hosting a themed DIY Baby Shower at home with easy to execute DIY Baby Shower Decor Ideas. With the help of my hubby and a few friends, I pulled off an amazing celebration right in my own backyard!

Truth be told, I wasn’t too keen on the idea of hosting a baby shower at first. Being far from home in a foreign land made it seem like a daunting task for a pregnant woman. But thanks to two amazing friends who flew in all the way from Texas to lend a hand, I decided to go for it. Their support not only boosted my spirits but also made the baby shower a truly memorable experience.

Choosing the ideal Date, Time and Location:

  • The initial step in planning your baby shower is deciding on the date and what time of the day. Weekends are typically ideal, as they suit most people’s schedules. Trust me, this simplifies the process of ensuring you have all the necessary elements in place, from lighting to the perfect theme, chosen according to the time of day for great results.
  • I opted for an outdoor daytime baby shower because I love how colors and photos appear in natural light. Additionally, given that it was October, daytime seemed more comfortable weather-wise than chilly evenings.
  • As for location, after taking various factors into account, such as weather conditions, the number of guests, comfort, and budget, I made the decision to host the event in my backyard.

Selecting a Baby Shower Theme:

Once you’ve nailed down the date, time, and location, it’s time to brainstorm themes. Since I envisioned an outdoor daytime event in my backyard, I decided to blend 2-3 themes for a unique decoration scheme. I highly recommend mixing and matching themes to create something special. For my baby shower, I chose a jungle adventure theme paired with rustic pastel elements for balloons and decor. I prefer themes that aren’t gender-specific, but that’s just my personal preference.

If you’re unsure about the baby’s gender, a neutral theme is a great option. Even though I knew the gender, it wasn’t public information, so I carefully selected colors to avoid giving any hints to the guests. These are important details to consider when choosing the theme and color scheme for your baby shower.

Creating a Guest List and Invites:

Creating a guest list is crucial to determine the number of attendees and plan food and furniture arrangements accordingly. For my baby shower, I utilized an online platform like Paperless Post to design and send out e-invites. They offer a variety of cute designs to choose from. Invites add to the excitement of the event!

Once your invites are ready, the next step is deciding when to send them out to gather RSVPs and confirm the number of guests attending. Ensure you have ample time to make necessary arrangements and send the invitations in advance.

Food Menu:

When planning your baby shower, consider the food menu carefully, taking into account the time of day and your guests’ preferences. Don’t forget to ask about any allergies to ensure everyone can enjoy the meal. As vegetarians with a mix of Indian and American guests, we opted for a diverse menu including Indian, American, and Mexican dishes. Remember, food choices are personal, so feel free to customize your menu to suit your preferences. Be sure to order food and desserts at least a week in advance to avoid any last-minute rush.

Decor:

As for decor, with a guest list of 30-40 attendees, I aimed for simplicity. I adorned the space with a balloon arch, wooden chairs for guests, a dessert table, and tables for food. Depending on your theme and budget, you can incorporate additional elements like a photo booth, elevated drinks menu, or gift area. The key is to create an atmosphere that reflects your vision while accommodating your guests’ comfort and enjoyment.

Considering a Photographer:

DIY or Professional? If you have access to a DSLR and a friend with photography skills, it’s a great option. However, if not, consider hiring a photographer within your budget. Ensure you capture the memories of this special day, especially those precious moments with your adorable baby bump that you’ll cherish forever.”
